I´m Spanish, and I´ve got no idea about the different English accents... But when I heard Grace Zabriskie´s accent in IE it sounded to me like some kind of British accent, but I´m not sure at all. I ask you this because I´ve read somewhere that maybe she´s playing the role of someone from Poland, but... would someone from Poland speak with an accent like that? Thank you in advance....

Since Poland plays a big part of IE, I would guess it's supposed to be a polish accent. It's definitely eastern european*.
*Or Grace's impersonation of an eastern accent.

It sounds deliberately bad. Either that or she was trying, but obviously not pulling it off, but Lynch went with it as just another jarring element. By the end of this film you learn to accept so much weirdness that the memory of her weird accent is nothing...lol.

The concept of the "communication breakdown" is pretty essential to INLAND EMPIRE, in my opinion. The use of different languages, the subtitles (sometimes used when characters are actually speaking english, like the Japanese girl). Remember David's cameo as Bucky Jay, the lighting guy who seems to have some kind of speech impediment. IE really gives Lynch a chance to explore his own aphasic tendencies.
Has he taken his eyes off it yet?

That´s a very interesting point of view! Thanx!
Here in Spain the film hasn´t been dubbed. I saw it with Spanish subtitles, so this is the first time I heard about subtitling some parts that are spoken in English when a character, like the Japanese girl, is speaking in English already. Are there other parts of the film with this kind of "anomalies"?? Thank you.

I think the Polish bits are the only other bits with subtitles. The Japanese girl's words are subtitled presumably because of her very thick accent, but also because it adds a certain atmosphere...?
Is the let down of reality better than not realizing a dream? Never forget the importance of hope.

But her accent is no harder to understand than that of the black woman in the same scene..... Does anyone know if the Japanese girl is the same one from Darkened Room?
Has he taken his eyes off it yet?

It's meant to be Polish. In fact, my half Polish girlfriend commented that her accent was quite good..

I don't know how accurate the accent is but I loved Grace Zabriskie in INLAND EMPIRE. I was really happy to see her and thought she was fantastic.
I ran from the noise and the silence, from the traffic on the streets
