This Monday's Seattle Times featured an interview with David in which he claims his average daily coffee consumption is between 10 & 20 cups a day!!! That would explain a few things: like his move to come out with his own caffeine line & his touting of the artist studio piss sink (see Lamp sequence on Dynamic 01). In the same edition there's an article about Seattle area coffee drive-throughs featuring "come-hither" Hooters-style barristas. Do they have these workers in Dave's "hood"? Might explain his high latte level... Oh, noticed a not too subliminal "ad" in I.E. At the opening of an early scene Devon says: "It's all in the beans! And I'm just FULL of beans!" : Lynch's Coffee catch-phrase...

Since we're on the topic of coffee, I couldn't help but share this picture with y'all. Its a photograph taken right at the moment a splash of milk hits the surface of a cuppa damn fine coffee...

Yes, it is between 10 and 20 cups, and the cups are BIG! One of the office guys makes the lattes. Does a great job of it too.

Insane! Well, I guess those 10-20 cups are of american coffee and not Italian espresso. Or he'll have a stroke before saying "napkin". Word from an Italian who praises the national coffee but can't bear no more than one coffee cup per day. Beware, guys. Not only junk food is dangerous...

Caffeine and Nicotine - what a catchy title for an indie film - are a nasty combination of addictions. I didn't know this but nicotine works to lessen the effects of caffeine. When smokers cut down their daily allotment of cigarettes but continue with their usual caffeine dosage, the caffeine effects are increased. Not that there's anything wrong with willfully wreaking havoc on your body... Susan

Nicotine's a drug." Regardless of it's relative "legality"....

Been done! It's a great film by Jim Jarmusch called "Coffee and Cigarettes".

As a matter of fact, Susan was quoting it indirectly (I guess), right?

Wait, isn't nicotine virtually illegal in California? I had a couple people in the bar a week or two ago telling me a police officer can pull you over if you are smoking in your car and give you a ticket and the ticket is double if there is a child in the car. Okay, what if your windows are rolled down, all vents are stuffed with cotton balls and their is no child in the car? How fiercely is this law enforced, just curious.
One more question for Califorinansm how available is David Lynch's coffee there?

You are correct, Mr. Silencio. A little play on words. Smokey, I think those people may have been joshing you, were smoking something other than cigarettes, or had an encounter with a rogue cop. Never heard of such a thing. But it is possible they had a rude encounter with the law while passing through Calabasas, the smoke-free town. This link which describes all the "whereas's" of their smoking ban. Pretty funny document! Here's the Wikipedia California smoking ban laws:
- California, 1994 banned in almost all workplaces (excepting tobacconists), including all restaurants, and in 1998 smoking was banned in bars. Additionally, California prohibits smoking within 20 feet of any door or window of any government building within the state, including buildings owned or occupied (e.g. leased) by any government entity, including public universities, or public buildings leased to private firms.
- San Luis Obispo, 2 August 1990 became the first city in the world to ban smoking in all public buildings
- Calabasas, 2006 banned in all indoor and outdoor public places, except for a handful of scattered, desginated outdoor smoking areas in town. Believed to be the strictest ban in the United States.
As for the Lynch coffee, I haven't seen it. I don't think it's on the shelves of any major supermarkets yet.

Did ya see? David's coffee is for sale now at dl.com, but it's mighty pricey. I don't think it will make it to those grocery store shelves.

That last bit of that member question called "coffee break" on Dynamic: 01 says it all:
Dave says, "Cheers" and chugs an entire cappuccino from a big mug, and the guy off camera says, very seriously, "It's not water." And Dave gives him that 'look-I know- I-have-problem-but-it's-under-control' expression you see on alcoholics.

Just posting to let you all know that Whole Foods is going to be carrying David's coffee. I went in there and had the customer service person look it up on the computer, and it's coming, in a black can (don't know about those fancy coasters.) It was really funny, because she kept asking me if David Lynch was a famous chef, and I said "No, he's a famous director." I don't think she believed me!
