I was taking a hiatus from these threads until the new DVDs arrived (so I could rewatch TP and look for details much better), but I found out I already had plenty of notes from the 2nd season opener, so here they are. Anyway, as soon as I get the DVDs (which had been released in Spain a couple of days ago and I already ordered, but are delayed... ) I'll probably update this list. Well, less singing, more sailing... * The envelope with Audrey's note says "Agent Cooper", not "My special agent" as we saw in the previous ep. * In the first shot of Coop in the floor we can already see that only one of the tree bullets wounded him. * Is Coop left handed? He signs the bill with the left hand. * The Giant and Señor Droolcup wear the same tie. * Why Ben calls Audrey Prudence if she said her name was Hester? Answer: in the script he asks her her "real" name and she answers Prudence. * Doc says it's 7:45 and that's the time the clock in the background shows. * Mark Frost plays the newscaster who reports about the mill's fire (if you didn't already know this, you should be tortured to death). * We can see that Coop, Doc, etc. are leaving the Emergency Room. * In the closeup of Ronette's medical record we can see the date when she was hospitalized, obviously Feb. 24th. * Leland was again behind the folding screen when he first appears (see ep. 4). * Albert is seen removing his glasses 3 times. * Maddy orders again a cherry coke....drinking it this time. * Gerard arrives to the sheriff's station and everyone forgets about him for the rest of the ep. We see many scenes in the station but not Gerard. * The whistle heard when Donna enters the station looking sexy (well...). * The picture of Teresa Banks that Coop shows to Andy and Lucy is of a long-haired woman, nothing like the Teresa we know from FWWM. * The sound effect heard every time the hospital food is shown. * Coop senses the "smiling bag" before seeing it. * This is seen often, but here we notice that the Double R left wall has no windows inside while it does in the establishing shots (for obvious reasons). * The reason there’s a town map drawn in the chalkboard when Coop is talking is because in the script (maybe a deleted scene?) Lucy traces the route Laura followed through town the day she died. On screen we can see that Lucy holds the pointer. * A couple kissing in the background when Ben and Jerry walk through the lobby. * How did Audrey’s note travel from the desk with the phone under the bed? * The hospital corridor we see in the last scenes is the same one where Coop and Harry met in the Pilot. * BOB has his lips painted red in Ronette’s dream (only seen if we freeze frame).

Did NOT notice that "tree bullets" were shot into Coop. Does that maybe implicate the Log Lady as Josie's ammo supplier?

You have to forgive Gordon, he was trying out his "My Cousin Vinnie" impression. "Did you notice the two yoots?"

doh, I apparently have missed all of them before! I didn't know... hit me! ;-) Lots of interesting observations. The tie for instance, that's a good one. Prudence fits the situation. I don't know what happened in the script but in films men often call the hookers some imagined name which has some sexual hint. Prudence - why not?

Joke answer: The fact is that Ben is a big Beatles fan. He could just as soon as called her "Martha, my dear" or "polythene Pam". Real answer: I may be wrong, but I always associated the name "Prudence" in this scene with being "prudish" or "pure". As in, he's calling her Prudence because he thinks she's playing hard to get by covering herself.

I like both answers! But he could have made it simpler by just calling her Julia... or Mrs Postman... ;-)

* I noticed that when a truck turns the corner past the RR (after Andy cries,) you can see the "North Bend Way" road sign.

I am fixing to watch this episode again tonight. Why is this episode much maligned by some fans and critics? I don't get that, it was 2 hours of Lynchian euphoria!
"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this." -Dale Cooper

watch Mulholland Drive 5 times in a row as a punishment, that's much worst for you... Mulholland Drive is one of the best, most thought provoking movies I've ever seen - Once I realized the first hour or so is a dream.

You can hear the hospital food bubbling, yet to the naked eye it is not moving at all. If they had a name for the stuff served at ole Calhoun Memorial, it would be called glop.

Why does the elderly waiter act so bizarre around Cooper? Even if the Giant uses him as a human host and other people like Albert see him, why does he not acknowledge Cooper getting shot? It is like Cooper and him are having two separate conversations. Senor Droolcup tells Cooper he has heard about him twice and winks and gives the thumbs up sign 3 times each. Any meaning to this? When the Giant (who has a very thick accent) asks Cooper - Where have you gone? Does he know of Cooper's future entrapment in the Black Lodge due to the time bending over there? Is Cooper's hair going to turn white too like Leland's when he gets possessed by BOB? "Sheriff, get your mind off Shelly." - too funny. I bet this line was put in because of DL's fascination with Madchen Amick. Why did Donna want Laura's sunglasses if she told her in FWWM not to wear any of her stuff? Twin Peaks was even ahead of its time on Alicia Witt, who nowadays is a major hottie Why would Leland wear a tuxedo to the Haywards dinner? Isn't Harriet's poem the hidden track on the Season 2 Soundtrack? When the camera moves thru the hospital, is that BOB's spirit moving towards Ronette?

coolsprings, the behaviour of the waiter could just be referred to as 'absurd drama.' as you can see, it creates a disorientating, confusing effect. there is no reason behind it; it was probably intended to annoy the fans who had waited so long to see the second season!

I'm sure it was just Lynch being Lynch. I loved every second of it even with the probably intentional desired effect of the pace being extremely unsettling and slow. I don't remember if I read this or someone said it, but I thought I heard the ratings for the Season 2 premiere back in 1990 dropped off a cliff after the first 15 minutes because that scene turned so many of the casual viewers off. I guess that just shows you how dumb our society is and most viewers just go for the lowest common demoninator type garbage for entertainment.

One could argue that shows how dumb the director was for not recognizing the medium in which he was working. After ratings tailed off toward the end of season one, ABC spent a lot of money promoting the season 2 premiere, and even got Kyle to host Saturday Night Live the night before. Twin Peaks got the prime Sunday night spot, and a huge audience tuned in. But once they saw that Agent Cooper was safe and the pace slowed to a virtual stop, many viewers chose to sample other networks' heavily-promoted new shows. And with that, Twin Peaks died.
A movie audience is a captive audience, but a television audience with a remote control is the ultimate free agent.

Well, we do cut to a much faster One-Eyed Jack's scene in the middle of Coop's predicament, so it's not like Lynch (and Frost, who contributed by writing it to be slow) didn't give a hoot.
"What credit card do you want to put that on?" "Caash, prease."

coolspringsj, i second, third, fourth and fifth that!!! Witt, beyond being a hottie, actually hottie is derisive, otherworldly gorgeous woman is more apt, is a much underused actress in my opinion. her and crispin glover were magic together in hotel room. maybe im dreaming, but i would like to hope to think that lynch will cast her again, as he tends to use the same pool of actors over and over, and she's already been in dune, TP, and hotel room(which i hear is coming to DVD soon!) one can only hope. ok enough fawning.
and yes that is harriet's poem, with witt improvising underneath, as the hidden track at the beginning of the season two and more cd. a lovely surprise to hear that on my first listen when it came out and i pushed the back button by accident and then there they were. "the two what? what was that word? did you say yutes? what is a yute?" such a classic fred gwynne exchange. i may have to watch this again soon.

Before Ronette's vision when we see the corridors of the hospital, pay close attention to the third shot. Watch the first few frames of it. Do you see someone moving at the very end of the corridor? It's not easy to see but there is clearly someone walking and disappearing to the right. I don't think it's a doctor. Maybe it is the one who tried to poison Ronette... Of course it might be just someone from the crew being there when he shouldn't but whatever the case is it fits the storyline quite well.
