Hello everyone, I have to admit I am a bit addicted to rating and listing. Also, I like games and that counts for message board games, too ;-) My idea for a game which would go on for a few months is that each week or so we take one Lynch film and make up a list of five best SCENES from this movie. I choose how much time we have to vote, then I sum up the points and there we go - we have the top five best scenes for each film. For this reason it is important that you list them, please try... ex-aequo is possible but if you give me five ex-aequos, well.. yeah.. it's possible, too, but I'd like it more the other way. However you do NOT have to fill in all five spaces. For instance, if you find that one scene outstands the other so much, you can give a number one and leave the other places blank (or start again from number four or something). Oppositely, if you find there are no really good scenes in the film given, go ahead and list only number five, if you wish ;-) A "scene" sometimes does not have clear beginning or end... but we all have some cinema intuition good enough to consider something a "scene" as opposed to, for example, a sequence of scenes or a single shot on the other hand. And if any differences appear in that considering - the better for the thread I believe. By the way I think the value of a scene in a film is underrated. For me it is an essential unit of film matter, something which can really show off the filmmaker's quality. It's like a verse in a poem. Sometimes a poem is not good overall but there you find a brilliant moment within a few lines, which create a verse... it is something to come back to, even - like I said - if the poem is altogether a failure. Same for a film: very often the really powerful trace that a film leaves in my memory is a scene which moved me deeply, which for its brilliant construction, hidden meaning, whatever, turned out more memorable than the whole picture. I truly think that "the best scene" should be a category for Oscars and any other film awards, and in my eyes, it would be one of the most prestigious awards possible. The thread idea is not very ingenious I'm afraid... but who knows, perhaps it's going to work, perhaps it even shows us something we have not been not aware of? About what we like from Lynch's universe. I will post an Eraserhead thread this evening, just let me think what scenes are in there cause I haven't watched it n a while ;-) P.S. If you think that, for example, a top ten would be better, please state your opinion, any rules can be changed here.
