Following on from the thread regarding Mr Lynch's interview responses, I thought it would be interesting to open a thread to find out what you would ask David Lynch if you had the chance. People have been blaming journalists (quite rightly, in my opinion!) for asking the same questions over and over...so...in that case..What would YOU ask?

*goes off to have a think before posting*

What is your greatest fear? I mean, favorite color of fear?

Personally I would like to know his thoughts regarding the pedestrianisation of Norwich town centre.

What has been the most valuable artistic mistake of your career (as you define an "artistic mistake"), and why?

I would ask, "What in the Hell were you thinking!?"

Oh, wait a minute, I already asked that....

I have always liked to think that it's revealed to us in Twin Peaks already: "The possibility that love is not enough."

Clarification of Lynch's views and their ever-changing trip from the time after FWWM to present day would be interesting to hear (talks about a second follow-up movie, continuation to the series in some form, FWWM deleted scenes, the talks about Twin Peaks arc not being over and that it would be great to go back later, and that changing to the "It's all over for Twin Peaks" -thing. What kind of things made Dave change the way he thinks about Peaks and was it just about money, eventual frustration to the topic or what?)

Another question comes to mind as well: Lynch has made a few films from novels even though he has turned more and more to writing original scripts. What are the things that make a novel capable of turning Lynchian and into a film of his own vision, while Lynch turned down the offer to direct Return of the Jedi because it was clearly going to be based on George Lucas's vision. Ok, the example may be bad, but... isn't Dune quite clearly Herbert's vision?

Movie vision is different from book vision.

That's right. For one thing, there's a lot less reading involved (unless you're watching one of those Commie foreign films).

How do you manage to make things in your movies that appear to be totally different from each other be related to each other in the totality of it without even thinking them in order and  with preestablished, rationally thought schemes of the plot?

It sure is. That's what made it a bad example. ;)

I suspect DL would choose to gnaw his way to freedom rather than spend half an hour trapped in a lift with me. Questions about the narrative of the films are nearly always deflected with anecdotes but in an ideal world I'd ask if there's anything DL thinks I should know about Twin Peaks that I don't know already.

I always had a great problem with asking the so called 'idols' questions.

Remeber from my earlier years when some friends would from time to time get excited about how they came across some guy who was in whatever way important for us, and they'd always walk up to that person and ask some, well, questions.

To me it always seemed quite useless. I mean - to tell you the truth I was never really INTERESTED in those things. It seemed to me like asking just to exchange a few words with the 'idol'.

I see it now in a different perspective when I met in person the members of my favourite band and not met them as 'idols' but as normal people, for instance - guests to my own home! Then you talk to them all right, but it's nothing like 'interviewing', rather a friendly chat.

I think I'd much rather invite David for tea over here than ask him questions on a press conference or so ;-)
