Does anyone think that Lynch  may have a form of autism or some other kind of  mental aberration ?. The reason I ask this is because of the way that he constructs some of his movies like Lost Highway or Mulholland Drive : moebius narratives that are like incomplete puzzles or complete depending on your take, the  way he constructs  these movies appear to be natural to him  but are illogical to the majority of people. Therfore it would seem his mind must operate in another way to most peoples.

Well, why not. I'm also in minority with many of my opinions about things and sometimes find people stupid because of what they do in some situation, something that I wouldn't do. Or why they cannot be doing something that I do, or would want to do, or understand it. Calling it mental disadvantage, though, may trigger some unhappy thoughts even though "mental disadvantage" here would be absolutely warm-hearted comment and uttered out loud with no bad intentions what so ever. Probably the "dis" in the front of the world gives it that feel.

I'd say it is a mental advantage that Lynch has and many lack. But it could very well be called disadvantage too. It's a matter of perspective.

(As a matter of fact, I believe that there is no such thing as objective truth, so ALL THINGS and all sides of things are just a matter of perspective)

Have you never had a strange, narratively incomplete dream? By your logic, if you tried to explain it to someone else, you'd be autistic? Then, are all abstract impressionist artists mentally disadvantaged, like the ones that inspired DL? A reminder: The Straight Story, Elephant Man, Blue Velvet and Wild at Heart are all perfectly straightforward. It's not as if Lynch goes out to make a film with a clear beginning, middle and end or paintings that makes sense to the most dull minded audiences (which is arguably the "majority" you speak of) and just can't. Instead, he has a tendency to choose other approaches that allows for different interpretations.

I think the thing here is the ability to see beyond, which some have and some don't. By which name should it be called is beside the point.

However, sometimes this ability may travel from a mindset to another: my sister, who could be called "dull minded" in some ways, understood my latest film completely while a friend of mine who is into art and music was completely lost and didn't get it at all.

So you just recanted. Art is so subjective, whether or not it confuses or speaks to you doesn't reflect on the mental capacities of the artist.
