I wondered if anyone had thoughts about what the new digital formats (HD, Blue Ray etc.) might have in store for disc versions of DL films. Does anyone think that there will be any radical remastering for these new format releases? Will we be offered any interesting extras to buy new versions AGAIN? (Personally, I am suffering from format-obsolescence fatigue. How many more times can I buy Blue Velvet etc.?) I would be surprised if DL films were high on the studio lists of new format transfers. It may be that by the time DL's films surface, the format wars will be over and one format will be dominant.

What do you guys think?

Perhaps we could confine our ideas to reissues of exisiting DL films rather than discuss the influence of digital-image-capture technology on DL's new film-making. I think that is a separate topic we might tackle after more of us have seen IE.

DVDs aren't going anywhere, trust me. But if you're planning to invest in one or both of the new formats, I can tell you that Dune will be the first Lynch film on a hi-def disc (go figure ).

Now that Blu-Ray has won the latest round of "format wars", does anyone know when we can expect to see some Lynch movies in high def?

Has he taken his eyes off it yet?

My guess is never.

By the way, if anything by him gets released on Blu Ray, I guess that would be Blue Velvet, Mulholland Dr., Inland Empire and maybe Lost highway.

Every thread I make posts in seems to get stuck with my say and nobody ever tells anything anymore...

How can that be possible?

My two cents, then: I can see approximately zero value in releasing INLAND EMPIRE on Blu-Ray.  8000 pixels is 8000 pixels!

It happens to me too. I like to think it's because my comments are so insightful and clever that there's nothing more anybody could possibly add! And now I think about it, when people do go to the trouble of replying to my posts they're usually abusive...

I think the new formats are too much for people to get their heads around at the moment. David Lynch DVD releases have been such a mixed bag that I personally don't even want to speculate about Blu-Ray yet. You know it's going to lead to more rights issues, wrong aspect ratios, disappointing special features, sobbing, hair-pulling and gnashing of teeth!

This is the calm before the storm. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Nooooo!

Why does there have to be another storm? Wasn't Lynch enough unlucky during his career to actually enjoy what he's doing now that he's found his way to be independent? I applaud him for what he does. So few directors reach that freedom. He's right there, at the highest point.

Instead of the storm, I actually would say that now it's pretty unpredictable what he will do next. For me, at this point, he can stop making movies because he's already given everything. I mean, he can keep appearing once in a while, make his art pojects, make music, short films, why not documentaries or videoclips or whatever else?

Jonathan Demme - which is someone else I adore from your country - has made in the last few years two wonderful documentaries that differed from each other The Agronomist and Jimmy Carter Man From Plains
