This came up in another thread, I thought it'd be nice to get off our chests the stuff that DL's done that didn't blow us away.

Here are my top 3

3. The Grandmother (There were a couple of cool concepts ie. the tree in the bed, the parents that only made animal noises, but all in all I was very unimpressed.)

2. Dumbland (I've said it before- it was interesting for about 5 seconds. If dumb was what he was going for, dumb was what was achieved. I just want to know why, why, why?)

1. Dune (Goes without saying. Plus, I'm just not one for sci-fi to begin with)

Honorable mention also goes to Blue Velvet, which is redeemed in my opinion only by Frank Booth's immortal dialogue, and the scene in Dorothy's apt at the end.

I don't need to watch either Dune or Elephant Man very often.  The Grandmother I'm glad I saw once, but that was probably enough.  The Cowboy and the Frenchman is cute, but it goes on a bit long for my taste.  Wild at Heart has grown on me, but I could still give it up.

That's not too awful difficult

3. Dune

2. On the Air (since I only saw the first two episodes)

1. Anything on davidlynch.com except perhaps Rabbits.

I'm not sure I have a top 3. I don't feel the need to watch The Alphabet or Dune again anytime soon, but I have an affinity for pretty much everything else I've seen (which is basically all the feature films, Twin Peaks (obviously), On the Air, Rabbits and The Grandmother - which I rather enjoyed!)

I haven't seen everything available on dl.com. I've heard it's "hit-and-miss". In truth, the main reason I paid for Rabbits was because I believe it will help me to understand INLAND EMPIRE....

Has he taken his eyes off it yet?

Ooo, I forgot On the Air.  Both times I "saw" it, it affected me like a hearty dose of Valium within the first 10 minutes.

Man, I can't believe someone said Elephant Man!

I agree abou the Grandmother though, the only reason I show it to people is that when the by is on the screen at one point, he turns toward the camera and I said/whisper "Zoom Zoom" and it always get's a laugh.  (For those that don't get it possibly due to being in other countries, there is a similar boy on a car commercial here in the US, and he says that, and looks similar.)

Everybody is entitled to their opinion but in my own honest opinion, The Elephant Man is a masterpiece. I loved the grandmother too for the boy's performance and lynch's use of black and white imagery. But this is about what sucks so here's my top 3:

1. Dumbland (totally agree with 12 rainbow, it is complete bollocks)

2. Industrial Symphony ( Pointless)

3. Wild at Heart (just not weird enough for me)

I'm not saying Elephant Man isn't a great film -- I think it is. It's just not a film that gives me enough personal satisfaction to bother watching it more than once a decade or so. Diana Krall is a brilliant performer and seems to be a heck of a nice person, and I don't listen to her music at all. On The Road is a classic of American literature, and I will never finish it, and I don't care.

I agree with you, goodmorningamerica!  A lot of people here know I'm a huge DUNE fan.  I haven't studied Lost Highway enough to go one way or another, and I would have to say the films I dislike the most are the shorts and the goofy things on DL.com.

I know what you mean.  I feel that way about The Straight Story, too.

I hate to break the thread, wait a minute, no I don't, but I like it all. DUNE isn't a "turd". It is more interesting than the Sci-Fi Channel version. I haven't seen the short films so I can't comment on them. Except DUMBLAND which I can leave but I don't hate them.

Mulholland Dr - I probably would have liked this, had there been a show. As it is, it's the least "Lynchy" Lynch movie.

Wild at Heart - a couple of interesting vignettes that don't add up to an interesting whole.

I can't believe so many people said Wild At Heart... that movie's amazing... and Blue Velvet... Mulholland Dr... huh? Anyways my top 3 least favorite by him are:

1. Dumbland (I would definitely leave this one)

2. The Grandmother (It just got boring after a while.

3. The Elephant Man (the only movie of Lynch's I think is overrated, instead of underrated).

I haven't seen Dune yet though, so I couldn't comment on it. I don't really have much interest... I'll probably see it when I've seen everything else by Lynch.

That god damn trailer's more popular than Uncle's Day in a whorehouse!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I couldn't have put it better myself. I'm amazed anyone could say that MD doesn't feel "Lynchy" - for me, it felt closer to Twin Peaks than pretty much anything else he's done since!

In order not to have too much to write in this topic, I have never watched anything on dl.com, nor have I seen any of the short films, Cowboys, Frenchmen etc. ;-)

What I can mention then is Dune, as most people - the film is fine for me, but I can definitely leave it, and Mulholland Drive - although I would very deeply miss the Silencio scene, which I find perhaps the best scene made by Lynch.

Well, so I'm afraid I can't leave Mulholland Drive...

What I, however, most definitely can leave is the so called European version of the Twin Peaks pilot. I even HAVE TO leave it and FORGET IT EVEN EXISTS.
To tell you the truth I would do quite well without Episodes 2 and 9.
Give me 22 instead HA HA HA ;-)

I didn't want to make a new topic about this, but it seems this one fits best. I just signed up for DL.com but the Dumbland episodes are not working. Is this supposed to be happening?

Dude, the fact that when you had a question about Dumbland you naturally gravitated toward the thread about Lynch stuff people don't like is the funniest thing I've read in days. On that basis alone, I wish I could reward you with an answer.

Or insert "DL.com" in lieu of "Dumbland" in JVS's post, for that matter.

Lots of stuff on that site just plain doesn't work for no apparant reason at all.

1.  Eraserhead- It was worth seeing, but once was probably enough.  Too depressing.  Same reason I haven't seen Elephant Man, only Lynch film I've never seen.  (I know this is blasphemous to some)

2. Inland Empire - just a jumbled up, arty mess.  Lynch's talents should be more focused.

3.  Dune - Lynch was set up for failure from the get-go trying to film a beloved classic sci-fi novel.

"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this."  -Dale Cooper

I'm gonna change my answer to everything but Blue Velvet, Lost Highway, and the first half of Twin Peaks.
