Has anyone ever noticed the ugly she-dwarf who sowed the Queen of Diamonds onto Audry at One-eyed-Jacks.

Does this decrepit being appear anywhere else in the film?

Beauty is momentary in the mind -
The fitful tracing of a portal;
But in the flesh it is immortal.
The body dies; the body's beauty lives.
So evenings die, in their green going,
A wave, interminably flowing.
So gardens die, their meek breath scenting
the cowl of winter, done repenting.
So maidens die, to the auroral
Celebration of a maiden's choral.
Susanna's music touched the bawdy strings
Of those white elders; but, escaping,
Left only Death's ironic scraping.
Now in its immortality, it plays
On the clear viol of her memory,
And makes a constant sacrement of praise.

('Peter Quince at the Clavier' by Wallace Stevens)

Wow... I did notice this, but I forgot... I should go back and look at it. I'll bet anything it's a reference to the dwarf *spoiler* at the end of Don't Look Now (probably the inspiration for the MFAP)... and the Queen of Hearts costume is a reference to Manchurian Candidate.

That god damn trailer's more popular than Uncle's Day in a whorehouse!

LOL. No wonder the LMFAP went to another planet, he's got it much better with his cousin, Laura's body double.

Haven't seen Don't Look Now. A psychic thriller right? What's the reference to the dwarf at the end?

Queen of Diamonds not Hearts.

I don't want to give away the dwarf thing for you... it's kind of a plot giveaway. I've already said too much... Don't Look Now is a really great movie by the way; so much more than a psychic thriller. Very Lynchian (well it was pre-Lynch... whatever). Wonderfully acted, and has a terrifying ending. I also think that the MFAP was inspired by the same dwarf in the film. You'll see what I mean if you watch the movie. And I knew it was Queen of Diamonds... I must be more tired than I thought.

Looks as though 'Don't Look Now' will be this weekend's viewing. Thanks for the tip.

Like I said in an earlier post in a different thread, Re: Horne's Cigar, this film is so rich in meaning and references, the attention to detail paid by the writers and directors never ceases to amaze and impress me.

I watched this over the weekend and I couldn't stand it.  I fell asleep and then had to watch the rest the next day.  Very Lynchian in essence, but you didn't get close to the characters at all.  I felt that way in Wild at Heart too.  I had no connection.

Sorry you feel that way... don't know what you mean though; I think that it's one of the most personal horror movies out there... and I love Wild At Heart... did you see it yet Freshly Squeezed?

Not yet LWPM. Went looking at the local DVD store but no luck. I live in a country town so the viewing options can be a bit slim on the ground. Will have to look elsewhere. I'll post you when I get my hands on it.

Will keep looking.

Sorry? You didn´t notice the strange little woman who sowed the large playing card on Audreys dress just before Ben Horne enters the room? She´s there for a split second and says "Good luck, honey" or something...

Or what is it you don´t get? The film, "Don´t look now"? That´s what they are freakin´ talking about.....

It sounds kinda cool? Ha! I´d love to hear what it sounds like to you. I´ve been called the stragest things by foreigners who can´t pronounce it right. The worst version must be the one I heard when I was an exchange student in south England. They called me "DEETTA" with hard T´s. That was awful and yet still funny.

But trust me, I don´t have a funny name...
