Song of the Sirens by This Mortal Coil. This Mortal Coil is a goth/darkwave/ethereal band from the 80s on the 4AD record label. I have a few of their albums, but I don't know what album the song is from.

This would look good on your wall.

The album's called It'll End In Tears. The rest of the album's a big let down. DL wanted to use Song To The Siren in Blue Velvet but couldn't afford it so Angelo Badalamenti wrote Mysteries of Love to be used in its place.

Just a side not and I have mentioned this before...Robert Plant did an excellent cover of this song and it plays in the end credits of Moonlight Mile...

Didn't a ton of people do this song?  Didn't the Dust Brothers cover this?

***edit:  I thought this sounded so familiar and when I searched them I realized that they were the cocteau twins!  It's all coming back to me now...

Yep - Tim Buckley did the original and the Dust Brothers (before they became Chemical Brothers) did a version too.

I think Liz Fraser & Robin Guthrie were a bit peeved that the success of their version as This Mortal Coil threatened to overshadow their Cocteau Twins stuff. I think the song was No.1 in John Peel's festive 50.

It'll End In Tears, the This Mortal Coil album it's on, also features covers of a few Big Star songs (Kangaroo & Holocaust).

This Mortal Coil weren't a band per se, but a loose collective of 4ad musicians (inc members of Cocteau Twins, Colourbox, Wolfgang Press & Kim Deal) assembled by 4ad boss Ivo Watts-Russell.
