Just with further thoughts with regards to what I said in the 'Write it in your diary...' topic, I'm just thinking of Joss Whedon's up-coming Buffy Season 8 comic book series, and how he continued the cancelled-but-fantastic Firefly into a film and proposed later comic book series'. And then how Dark Angel wrapped up all it's plots in novels set after it's own series finale. And then long before Lucas released the Star Wars prequels, (even before he decided on making them), that in 1991 there began a lengthy original novel series expanding on the events in that universe after Return of the Jedi. And then there's the up-coming manga-ized sequel to Labyrinth. And to return to the comic book example once again, there is the recent Revolution on the Planet of the Apes mini-series. No, not an expansion on the disastrous Tim Burton re-make, but rather returning to - and expanding on - events of the original film series, and the last instalement of that (Battle for the Planet of the Apes) came out thirty years ago. Considering that these are television series and films with such cult appeal (primarily sci-fi/fantasy I admit, but some may argue TP has elements of particularly the latter), is it too much wonder that someday Twin Peaks may yet see a continuation in an original novel, or even comic book form? That David Lynch may either take part in such a project or give a grateful approval\endorsement to it? With the DVD release of the entire series on the horizon that will only further serve to bring interest to the series once again, it is definitely something worth considering I reckon.

I guess I'm one of those people that hopes that they'll pick up the story in 2015 "I'll see you again... in 25 years..." I always figured that was when the entry to the lodge was open again. That's only 9 years from now. And then David got me all excited when he posted that hidden video on his site of Laura still sitting and waiting in the Black Lodge. Here's hoping...

Of course! :) There is that often rumoured and speculated idea that Lynch may yet re-visit the fates of an aged Cooper and Laura within the Black Lodge. (Tieing it in with Cooper's dream, and the European pilot's ending). I actually read about that video on Lynch's site featuring the screenshot of Laura at the film's ended in the booklet I got with my Region 2 FWWM DVD. What exactly happens in it?

I've always secretly hoped the same thing grrlskout, but it wouldn't be the same without Jack Nance or Frank Silva. I'm torn between wanting more Twin Peaks and knowing it would be madness to even attempt such a thing. I thought DL dismissed the graphic novel idea because he said there would be nothing in it for him? It might answer questions but again it's just not the same. And if there was more Twin Peaks I'd have to insist on Sherilyn Fenn being in it. When the series finished the real cliffhanger for me was how Audrey got out of the bank alive! I didn't really miss the other characters in FWWM if only because we'd seen so much of them in the series and this was Laura's story. And isn't the clip of Laura on DL's site was just a photo and some questions, like What does she see? and What does she feel? I'm sure I read that in one of the threads on this board.

As I was saying, it's over. DL had said as much, and it would be a farce without him.

The reality in my opinion is that the only way we will ever see TP again is if a network can't come up with any new ideas and decides to redo teh series (updated version) with a new killer and some new spins.

Quite frankly, I'm shocked that there hasn't been any novels/comics/video games etc. based on Twin Peaks these past 15 years. Every cult show from Star Trek to Buffy to other "cancelled before their time" shows like Firefly and Dark Angel have had tie in media. I'm thinking it's either A: A rights issue or B: Lynch and Frost would have to sign off on any continuation, and are hesitant to do so as it's their baby. ( Probably more Lynch than Frost, I doubt Mark Frost would object too much ) I personally would L O V E to see a Twin Peaks novel ( Is Jennifer Lynch busy these days? ) or Comic book series. I've often heard Alan Moore say Twin Peaks was his favorite show...can you imagine an Alan Moore TP related comics project? If they had to have the Lynch stamp of approval before going to press, I doubt they would ever be crappy. It's still not too late for this to happen. Maybe "25 Years Later"? That's only 8 years away now....

I agree. The novel/graphic novel idea fills me with horror and it's too late in the day for a new tv series/film. Important cast members have died (Jack Nance, Frank Silva) and some are just plain difficult. Naomi Watts, Laura Harring and Justin Theroux have been loyal to DL in a way that actors in the past (Kyle Mclachlan, Lara Flynn Boyle) weren't. I have a lot of time for people like Catherine Coulson, Michael Anderson and Laura Dern because they're so enthusiastic about DL'S work. If it wasn't for the Twin Peaks connection Kyle Mclachlan would have vanished into total obscurity. His attitude towards FWWM was so disrespectful, it left a sour taste in my mouth. It's like, he couldn't commit to DL for more than a week, but he could find the time to make (good God) Showgirls... I hope he sacked his agent.

DL should continue the story of Cooper and Laura within the Black Lodge again in 2015!It will be so great!I want to see something new from the world of Twin Peaks:( But this is just a dream.I don't believe Lynch will do something.

I'm not sure why the idea of novels fills you with horror; to me the Secret Diary of Laura Palmer is as much a part of the Twin Peaks "experience" as the show/movie. There is no reason it can't be decent. And as for important cast members no longer being with us, that's hardly an issue....not everyone needs to come back. Hell, how many characters died throughout the course of the series? Leland, Maddy, Jaques, Jean Renault, Blackie, Josie...the list goes on. At this point any Twin Peaks continuation would likely take place years after the series was over, rendering that argument moot. As long as a few key characters return ( Namely Coop ) Heck, even if DL ever DID decide to do a live action continuation....there are ways to bring BOB back, at least in the mirror. They did it for Marlon Brando in Superman Returns, why not Frank Silva? It's an option. And as for Jack Nance, well....let's face it, the series finale left a REALLY easy way of writing him out of future appearances. If I were Lynch and Frost, and I decided to do a new Twin Peaks, I would frankly only use Coop and the Sherrif's Station crew, and create a whole new mystery pherhaps somewhat related to the old ones but not too much. The storylines for Donna, James, Norma, Ed, Bobby, Shelly and a lot of the others were pretty played out by the series end anyways, IMHO.

Some people are really just Twin Peaks fans whereas others are David Lynch fans. I'm the latter. If DL isn't involved I'm not interested. A novel would be a poor substitute. For me The Secret Diary Of Laura Palmer is a curiosity. The contradictions and omissions undermine its authority so while I enjoyed it at the time, it has its limitations.

25 years later, Cooper finds a way out of the lodge to investigate the aftermath of the Evelyn Marsh/Malcolm Sloan saga, aided by the Sheriff's latest deputy, a fully grown Nicky Needleman...

Actually, that appeals to me far more than the graphic novel idea - you know how tv advertisements for Star Wars and He Man toys used to end with "Who wins? You decide!"

I don't think you can 100% count David out. Yes, he has stated in the past that he wouldn't be involved in Twin Peaks anymore, but I think he may have changed a bit since then. That little thing on his website I think is proof of that a bit. After a while TP wasn't received very well, and the movie... yeah, I think he was disappointed and like, "EFF THAT!" But since DL.com and seeing all of us SO EXCITED about TP, well... I think it may have softened him a bit. Not saying that he'd ever actually do anything, I just don't think you can't 100% count him out. Not that I can speak for him at all. But when I've talked to him about TP (online) he's always been so POSITIVE! Maybe he's just being nice, but... I dunno. He just didn't seem to have such a horrible attitude anymore. I dunno. I think the 25 years later thing could work if it's done right. Must get the right people involved. I've always thought that. But, who knows, I've been wrong before.... Show starts off with James and Donna's daughter dead. Wrapped in Plastic. heh.

I don't think that David would do it. These types of things rarely work out successfully and usually end up tarnishing the memory of something great. Like someone else said earlier, it ain't broke (save for the lil terror and the Marsh slut), so to tinker with it would be like trying to fix your old car that has miraculously run without a tune-up or oil change for 25 years. Then one day someone says "Hey ya know, we could prolly get another 25 years outta this thing if we tuned it up and changed the oil." After the servicing, the car breaks down never to run again and all the mystery is gone. I remember when they had someone write "Scarlett" the sequel to "Gone With the Wind"...it was a dismal failure, the characters were not "themselves" and it was just a disaster. Only David could successfully bring the characters back to life. Unless dave actually re-does it, it will fail, but I think he's too great a lover of letting a mystery remain a mystery (I speak figurately regaring TP). But we can hope...Dale Cooper, IMHO, is the greatest fictional character ever created.

LOL, that last point's a bit cruel, but amusing! ;)
That's an interesting point about Lynch, and the whole 'twenty five years later' bit could be fantastic if done right. I assume you mean he's positive when reminiscing about the show, with no mention of a continuation? I recall someone said during one interview for Mulholland Drive, Lynch allegedly said that considering he can't seem to get anything else for television done, that he perhaps should somehow revive Twin Peaks. But hearsay aside, I think if he may have some creative flights of fancy, Lynch could definitely bring it back at some point if he really wanted to. Regarding the lack of spin-off media in the last decade and a half though, I think we fans often forget (or play down in our own heads) just how much the show fell off the popularity radar in the mainstream. The series was definitely ahead of it's time, I mean look at the large amount of mass appeal and hence, spin-off material produced in latter years with regards to stuff like The X-Files and Lost. I mention these two television series because they certainly share certain attributes of TP, particularly their increasingly complex story-arcs stretched over seasons. (And wasn't the audience confusion in TP's storylines an alleged factor in the series' fall in popularity?)

There was a bizarre rumour that surfaced in a post on the IMDB boards (now above all, it should be noted, the site continues to be a major source of misinformation), that Mark Frost and MacLaughlan were considering a European-funded sequel called Twin Peaks:With A Thousand Angels or somewhat. While of course, naturally nothing came of it, there may have been perhaps a grain of truth to it, i.e. there may have been a small bit of discussion regarding MacLaughlan returning as Cooper. Here's the article: http://www.entertainmentwise.com/news?id=11298

You know how after the pilot episode, DL managed to wrap the story up in about 20 minutes, for the European edition? Well, perhaps he could do the same again, this time continuing after the end of series 2. The storyline only needs to go on for another 2 or 3 days and it could be brought to a kind of conclusion. The trouble is that some of the actors are dead or are 15 years too old for their part, but DL could hire new actors, just as he got Moira Kelly to play Donna in FWWM.

On that point, it sort of makes one wonder would Lynch have successfully wrapped up the major dangling plots (Cooper is BOB, the disappearances and status of Chet Desmond and Philip Jeffries, the true nature of BOB, Mike, 'garambozia' and the Black Lodge) in another Twin Peaks film in two hours or more, only this time of course it now set after the series finale. But I do think the story of Laura's last days is something that needed to be told, if only to explicately tie in many of the supernatural elements that came later in the series with the original murder mystery - to make it all successfully work together as a whole.
