The PAL speedup is only really noticeable on Mulholland Drive, for some reason. It was a shock when I heard Naomi Watts on the R1 dvd for the first time.

I wouldn't discount the R2 Lost Highway dvd because it plays 4% faster. It's a beautiful dvd and the interview with Meester Lynch is manna from heaven. I like to watch films in the best available quality and import dvds left right and centre but the PAL/NTSC thing is just pointless snobbery. I'd choose the gorgeous widescreen PAL over the horrible NTSC pan and scan any day.

I only own PAL editions of Lost Highway but listening to the soundtrack I see what you mean CCC. I can hear a difference between CD and DVD. Is the Robert Blake murder still holding up the R1 Lost Highway DVD? Can you imagine George Lucas allowing one unpopular actor to stand between him and profit? He'd have had him digitally replaced and the DVD would have been released and deleted ten times by now. The R1 editions FWWM and Mulholland Drive must be due an upgrade. PAL speedup aside the MK2 editions put them to shame.

Lost Highway was adapted as an opera by Austrian composer Olga Neuwirth. The opera was premiered in Graz in 2003 with the live-electronics and sound design realized at the Institute of Electronic Music and Acoustics (IEM) using the open source software pure data. It will have its American premiere in Oberlin, Ohio and at the Miller Theater in New York City in February, 2007.

Ahhh I've just had a brilliant evening!! Last year, I requested that the University Film Society show some Lynch films (they rent out a screen in the local cinema) and they liked the idea so much that Lost Highway was show tonight!! Only my second ever Lynch film on the big screen (along with IE)! Awesome...so so so good...I have it on DVD but there's nothing like the big screen. Those opening credits...*sigh* Best opening credits EVER.

Ill go to bed happy tonight...

(except my car broke down and i had to run over a mile to get there...bless me..im so commited..)

I should give t some more thought but yes, the opening credits for Lost Highway are fabulous.

And Iar - you're right, there's nothing like the big screen :-)

Imagine the opening Velvet for example... what impression can it make on a small screen compared to when you are facing a wall of thick, soft velvet....

I ordered this movie earlier this week, so I'm finally gonna see it... I can't wait... I've almost put off seeing it since it'll be the last really Lynchian Lynch movie I'll have left to see... Inland Empire should come out soon though (I hope).
